ARAGATE

Aragate is 8 km away from Ranchi.  In 1980 the Capuchin Fathers, residing in a rented house in the city, purchased 5 acres of land in view of starting a parish and a formation house.  Capuchin Ashram, rechristened as Kripa Sadan, was inaugurated on 13th June 1982 by Most Rev. Pius Kerketta, S.J.

The parish, dedicated to St. Francis of Assisi, has a population of over 4000 Catholics.  There are four village mission centres at Baheya, Barkumba, Jonha and Jobla and two religious congregations of Nuns working in the parish, namely (1) The Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ: engaged in health, school and village ministry and (2) Clarist Franciscan Missionaries of the Most Blessed Sacrament: run a Hindi medium primary school, a health centre and are fully involved in socio-development and faith formation work.  Both these congregations are engaged in health, school and socio-development and faith formation services.  A new parish church constructed by the Capuchins was blessed in 1987.
