HULHUNDU

The parish of Hulhundu was started by Fr. J. Binje with Abraham Lakra, the first catechist.  Then later Fr. J. De Cuyper showed keen interest and also financed the building of the Church, which was completed and blessed in 1959.  Fr. Hilarius Beck was officially appointed as the first parish priest on June 18, 1961.

Fatima Middle School was started in 1958 by Fr. L. De Raedt and it was recognized in 1962.  The Clergy House for old and infirm priests was built by His Grace, Pius Kerketta S.J. in 1963 with the first inmates, Frs. Marcus Ekka, Robert Minj and John Ekka.

Prakash Boys' High School was started by Fr. Noas Kerketta and St. Joseph's Girls' School was started by the Sisters of Charity of Jesus and Mary in 1963.  The Sisters are also running Sacred Heart School, an English Medium School for Girls.  Srs. Mechtilda, Albertina, Bimla were the first pioneers.  They started the Fatima dispensary with 22 beds in common ward and eight in private rooms.

The site for the Archdiocesan Vocation Centre was blessed by Most Rev. Telesphore P. Toppo on May 1, 1996.  In the same year on the 10th anniversary of the historic visit of His Holiness Pope John Paul II (1986) to Ranchi, His Eminence Cardinal Jozef Tomko, the Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, solemnly blessed the foundation stone on October 28, 1996.  Finally it was inaugurated and solemnly blessed by His Excellency the Most Reverend Lorenzo Boldisseri Apostolic Muncio on 5.11.2000 during his first pastoral visit to Ranchi on the occaswion of YKJ 2000's Ranchi Thanksgiving day.  The institution is a landmark in the promotion of local vocation for the Archdiocese.
