KANKE

Kanke was separated from Ranchi parish on 31.10.43 (Feast of Christ the King) with 900 Catholics as 'missio ad paganos' with no definite boundaries especially to meet the spiritual and educational needs of the employees of the mental hospitals.  The present Church was built in 1962.  In 1978 it had 1928 Catholics.  The recognized boys' Middle School was raised to high school in 1967 and was later entrusted to the Montfort Brothers.  The Girl's Middle School was raised to High School in 1968 and recognized in 1976.  It is managed by the Daughters of St. Anne.  A Regional Theologate, Tarunoday, was opened for the Jesuit theologians at Arsande in 1982.
