LOHARDAGA

On August 27, 1988 Fr. C. Lievens, the Apostle of Chotanagpur was officially put in charge as Mission Director of the entire then Lohardaga District.  Even though Ranchi was the principal administrative and judicial centre of the Lohardaga District there was still a court at Lohardaga.  Fr. Lievens wanted a place there to be of help to the people.  In December 1888 a house was taken on rent and two catechists were kept there to instruct the Christians who came to court.  In February 1889 a property was acquired and a small bungalow was put up there for a priest to stay.  It was the beginning of a forward mission post.  By September 5, 1889 there were some 200 Catholics.  Fr. Lievens repeatedly halted at Lohardaga Mission Bungalow.
