MISSIONARIES OF CHARITY Mother Teresa opened the first house of her congregation outside Calcutta in 1959 at Doranda, which is now the Regional house and formation house for the Missionaries of Charity. As the number of children entrusted to them began to increase, the Superiors decided to open the Shishu Bhawan at Jail Road (on January 17, 1967) which was later, on March 26, 1975 transferred to Hinoo at the present building. The old house now looks after the sick and dying destitutes, unwed mothers, and mentally retarded women. With the initiative of Fr. Lawlor, S.J. the Leprosy Centre at Radha Rani was opened on anuary 4, 1973. Some landed property was gifted by a generous lady named 'Radha' to which more land was added, and Mother added 'Rani', for Our Lady, thus the centre is called Radha Rani.
