The Congregation, founded by St. Francis of Assisi (1182-1226) to lead a life of brotherhood, living the Gospel counsels in simplicity and poverty, came to India soon after its foundation and ever since have been working in the Country.

In 1980 the Capuchin Fathers residing in a rented house in the city purchased 5 acres of land at Ara Gate in view of starting a parish and a formation house.  Br. John Joseph took the lead.  Capuchin Ashram became Kripa Sadan; Minor Seminary (compl. 1996), was inaugurated on 13th June 1982 by the Archbishop of Ranchi Most Rev. Pius Kerketta, S.J. while the parish Church was completed and blessed in 1987.  From 1977-1983 the students of theology frequented St. Albert's College from their rented house at Kumhartoli, now have their own house, Vidya Sadan, at Samlong, built in 1990.
